Such a darling house

A few centuries ago, a few thousand people lived on the land of Lahore. In Lahore, there was a tent where Billy’s family used to live. The scale of the tent was not immense. It was bare of the size where four people could fit in. Yet, a family of five used to live in this shelter.

The tent was pliable and couldn’t resist the force of a storm. While raining, the water drops dripped onto the members. It made Billy’s family suffer when the weather was not favourable. Even in these harsh conditions, something notable; none of them ever complained. They were certain. They utilized the branches of the trees and laid them out as their beds. They were barely meeting the necessities of life with the possessions they had. But, everything laid out was with love and affection. Dealings of the whole nine yards were with a lot of care. Sometimes, there were signs of desperation and devastation, but the acquaintances masked these signs handsomely. The family did not know whether they would be able to eat today. The menage didn’t know whether they would have something to eat or not. Yet, Billy never returned empty-handed from work. He made sure that none of his members slept with an empty stomach.

No person will like this kind of life. Billy’s family was finding it hard to survive. Yet, they used to call their tent “such a darling house.” They knew it was where they received love and recognition as someone who meant something to the other members. It was where the senses of brotherhood, affiliation and unity prevailed. Every member was willing to sacrifice for every other relative. They knew that if they gained everything that was there to catch in the world but lost what they got in this tent, this would be a colossal loss.

They used to go to others’ houses but never cherished being there. Even in other’s residences with stunning infrastructure, they were nothing special to other people except for being someone from another woman. With others, they would face cultural, linguistic and sometimes religious barriers. It was all a fitting-in game there. They couldn’t express themselves as they are to fit into the community, or they would be left alone. But, in Billy’s tent, Billy’s family could happily portray their aura and personality, and no one judged them.

The family knew they were going through a rough patch and bad times never lasted long. They were optimistic that good times would come. But in their unfortunate time, they preferred remaining content. In life's hurdles, they accepted themselves as who they were rather than pretending as someone else and giving their leash to society. And a time came when the family’s condition drastically improved. They moved to a much better place. The people used to visit billy’s house to cherish, and they had no other words to say except, “such a darling house.”

THE END!
